“The comprehension of the line as imprint and trace is guiding him in his painting. It approaches the ‘nouveau realisme’ that lets reality speak for itself without subjective interference. The picture is no longer a surface in the traditional sense, on which reality is reflected as an illusion, but a reality in itself. It does not refer to something beyond itself, but is self-contained in its material presence as paint on canvas.

Coskun Demirok is motivated by the exploration of the possibilities and prerequisites of contemporary painting. He reduces the means of creation in painting to fathom its limits. The small leeway resulting from these rigid parameters still enables the artist to follow spontaneous impulse and random reflexes. It is this unpredictable component within the largely objectified form of painting far from emotionality and individuality that holds the greatest appeal for Coskun Demirok.”
